A Century of Play
For over a hundred years, Puyat Sports has been at the heart of bowling and billiards in the Philippines. From Paeng Nepomuceno’s titles to Efren “Bata” Reyes’ global wins, its legacy lives in every lane and table—creating spaces where champions are made.

From Craftsmanship
to Competition
Carrying Gonzalo Puyat’s legacy, his two grandsons, Jose G. Puyat and Aristeo G. Puyat, launched Puyat Sports with a mission to propel bowling and billiards into a new era. They supported the sport by investing in modern equipment, facilities, and athlete development, which helped bring Filipino talent to the global spotlight.
A Century of Championing Philippine Sports and Recreation
Since 1905, Puyat Sports has helped define the Philippines’ sports scene—rising from a humble Quiapo billiards hall to a name that shaped modern recreation.
Today, its influence is everywhere: in training lanes, winning tables, and sports centers built for the sporting community.

1905
Gonzalo Puyat took over a small Quiapo billiard hall after the owner retired. He had previously worked there as an attendant for 18 hours a day.
1907
Puyat began reconditioning and selling used billiard tables from US military bases. When supplies ran out, he started producing his own tables.
1912
A Puyat billiard table won a Gold Medal at the National Exposition of Philippine-made products. This recognition boosted demand for his locally made tables.
1929
Gonzalo Puyat became President of the Chamber of Commerce of the Philippines. His leadership solidified his reputation as a pioneering Filipino industrialist.
Late 1940s (Post-WWII)
President Elpidio Quirino awarded Puyat the Philippine Legion of Honor, rank of Commander. The honor recognized his contributions to the country.
1966
Jose Puyat, Don Gonzalo’s grandson, leased his first duckpin bowling alley in Angeles, Pampanga, marking the beginning of his involvement in the bowling business.
1967
Jose upgraded the bowling lanes to North American maple and pine wood. He also installed AMF automatic pinspotters to modernize operations.
1972
Aristeo, also a grandson of Don Gonzalo, joined Jose in purchasing Coronado Lanes in Makati. They replaced outdated Brunswick pinsetters with AMF equipment.
1975
Jose brought the Bowling World Cup to the Philippines for the first time. International journalists praised it as the best edition ever staged.
1976
Paeng Nepomuceno won the Bowling World Cup in Iran. This victory positioned him as a rising global bowling star
1978
Lita dela Rosa became the Bowling World Cup women’s champion in Colombia. Her win inspired a new generation of Filipino bowlers
1979
Bong Coo won the women’s World Cup in Thailand. Her victory further elevated Philippine bowling on the world stage.
1980
The Furniture Division of Gonzalo Puyat & Sons closed to refocus corporate priorities. Jose and Aristeo absorbed skilled workers and established what became Puyat Sports.
Late 1980s
Jose and Aristeo began organizing televised billiard tournaments to uplift Filipino players. They shouldered full production costs since networks refused to cover billiards events.
1989
The first nationwide televised billiards match, “Billiards Showdown,” featured Efren Reyes vs. Amang Parica. Held at Ali Mall, it brought billiards into mainstream Filipino homes.
1992
Paeng Nepomuceno won another Bowling World Cup, this time in France. His continued excellence cemented him as one of the greatest bowlers in history.
1994
The “Philippine Challenge” series between Team USA and Team Philippines aired globally via Prime Sports. The event showcased world-class Filipino billiards talent.
1996
Paeng captured yet another Bowling World Cup title in Ireland. This made him one of the sport’s most decorated champions.
1999
Efren “Bata” Reyes won the World Championship in Cardiff, Wales. His triumph sparked widespread national support for billiards. President Joseph Estrada also awarded the Philippine Legion of Honor to both Paeng Nepomuceno and Efren Reyes. They became the only Filipino athletes to receive this distinction.
